A bus plunged into the Appomattox River in Hopewell, VA, and is immortalized 
in "The Fatal Wreck of the Bus" by Mainer's Mountaineers.  This song is on 
the recent compilation "People Take Warning: Murder Ballads and Disaster 
Songs" which would be right up your alley!
