[78-L] Bad news on record

For my money the best version of "Ommie Wise," is by G . B. Grayson, Victor
21625. Tom Ashley also did a version of it.

Grayson and Henry Whitter also recorded early versions of "Banks of the
Ohio" and "Tom Dooley."

This is a traditional ballad. More commonly it is known as Omie Wise:

"Oh, listen to my story, I'll tell you no lies,
How John Lewis did murder poor little Omie Wise, etc."

Apparently she was a young teenager who was killed by her boyfriend, a
fellow named Lewis. The recording is on the Victor label, sung by Vernon
Dalhart, and is electrically recorded.

Don't have that one, Bud. What happened to Naomi?
