Yes,

Springsteen did, "My City of Ruins" and and album, "Tower of Songs."  Also Toby Keith did, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)."   There are scads of songs by little and unknown composers; and article in "Slate" said there were so many in the year after 9/11 to make a "mini-genre."

Which leads me to wonder..were there any songs written about the attack on 
the Twin Towers?

And there was Dion's Abraham,  Martin and John,  which commemorated four 
political assassinations.
