[78-L] Help wanted please

Hello,
 
Can any reader help with information regarding a group of black jazz musicians - all US servicemen - who played here in Dorset (UK), in the months before D.Day, 6th June 1944.
 
They gathered in The Empress Hotel, Bournemouth.   The group (usually Piano, Drums, Three Brass, Three Saxes) was organised by the drummer Mel SEXTON.  One of the trumpeters was a Tommy LINDSEY.
 
I appreciate the information is vague - but any ideas please.
