German, like MANY European languages (but NOT English...?!) gives
nominal genders to all nouns! "Der" is masculine, "Die" is feminine and
"Das" is neuter...but these are NOT assigned with any rational sense;
ALL cats are female (DIE Katze) and ALL dogs are neuter (DAS
Hund)...
