Yes indeed, and the best thing is the "Serendipity Of The Collector"... you
know, the rarest records may appear in the most unsuspected place. These
ones were found in one of the antikee shops (furniture and hodge-podge) in
our Madrid "Rastro". This is a small district in the old Madrid (four or
five streets and the four or five transverse ones, not too long, maybe 300m
wide per 1000m long) full of antique shops of every kind, from old furniture
to the things you can find when emptying a wardrobe from granny's house. On
Sundays there's also a flea market, stalls on the streets, etc.

One never knows...

In February 2002, one fine day I found the only Comedian Harmonists
Electrola I've ever had. It was (still is) in E+ cond., and I payed for it
a mere $4.00, when these beautiful beast can reach well the $20 mark or more
in German auctions. Ask Nauck! This one was found in a sort of goodwill
store, very cheap, full of old papers, clothes, LPs, toys and furniture,
house appliances, all things well used. As I watched LPs at the deeps of the
shop, I asked the woman (portuguese) if they had shellacs, and she said
"probably yes... just look there!"

Almost ever it has been this way. All my rarest records have appeared in the
oddest of places, and costed almost nothing. Figure out!

However, I've paid $10 or more for records that I only played for the first
time and never more, as they resulted boring and dissapointing.

I've been chasing 78s... and guess what I've found, as ever, in the most
unpredictable place:
