In the last decades, I have collected 100 or more record catalogs...which
include Victor 1910-1956 and Columbia 1908-195?...! NONE of these
are...or more importantly WERE...hard-bound!
Record company catalogs (annual, with a few semi-annual exceptions)
were soft-bound...they were intended to be given out for free, and NO
one back in "them days" had ANY idea that the catalogs (never mind
the 78rpm records...?!) would be actively collected, and sold for then-
unimaginable prices...!
Oddly enough, I DO (or hope I STILL do?!) own a hard-bound Sears
catalog...1946, IIRC. It appears to have been intended for use in stores
which offered "catalog-order" service...?!
