[78-L] If anyone has $400 to spare...

Looks a beautifully produced edition.
Some Taschen limited editions are printed in trade editions 2 or 3 years
later,
might not have the brilliance of color of the limited, and no guarantee that
it
won't be reduced in size or content, or issued at all.
There was a collection of David Stone Martin graphics published by a
Japanese
company which seemed very expensive at the time, but has gone through the
roof, having
gone oop very quickly and never reprinted. Someone should publish a
catalog raisonne of
DSM work.
Best wishes, Thomas.

I was actually thinking of writing to Steinweiss (before the book was
announced) and sending him an empty 78 album he designed for him to
autograph for me. I'm not sure he'd do it now.

"Limited to 1,500 individually numbered copies, each signed by the artist
Alex
Steinweiss in his distinctive Steinweiss Scrawl , printed on
archival-quality
paper and presented in a custom slipcase."

Yikes. I'm happy that he's still alive to enjoy some recognition. There was
a
long period, up until about a decade ago, when pioneers like Steinweiss and
Flora were ignored. I can even remember reading a long time ago in a book
that
The Beatles were "the first" to use artistic covers on their albums; this is
of
course only true if you believe the universe sprang fully formed out of
Elvis's
brow, as most rock'n'roll writers at one did.

But $500 list is painful, even for a signature. It looks cool, though; it
looks
like a 78 album cover.

Looks fabulous, but why so much?

For something a little less harsh on the pocket book, I can recommend this
lesser volume:

1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242833474&sr=1-1
