Here in Spain more or less it's happening the same. Never vinyl has
dissapeared completely... They've been regularly issuing vinyl for such
music as independent groups, small editors, and the like. You could always
find them in small specialised record shops, fairs and the like. Even they
used the old 10" size (33 rpm) for some of them. And there's the DJ market,
where they've been keeping vinyl supply for that sector of the market that
still preferred disco hits on 45rpm-12" vinyl

But since last year or so, here too some of the last hits are available in
vinyl too, "for collectors and vinyl enthusiasts" they said.

Lately the vinyl production has become increased, though. Today you can buy
vinyl at the best chain stores, or at huge record shops. I've not seen it
yet, but I've been told that our "El Corte Inglés" (the hugest chain store
in Spain) now has a vinyl section, with lots of racks full of LPs.

The 78 market in Spain is also becoming stronger. Prices have raised from 3€
to 5€ (standard price) and you can find more 78s in shops than the years
before.

Even they've started a radio programme for 78s, in our National Radio
Service, RNE-3 station, which has been always devoted to special things. The
programme is carried on by three nice guys who play 78s in the booth. I've
been told that this is because of their love for shellac, and also to avoid
copyright fees, due to the mechanical rights being cancelled for copies
elder than 50 years. It's not the same if you make a transfer on CD and you
play the CD in the station, because this means a renewal of the mechanical
rights or something alike.

They play mainly cuban, spanish and south american music. It's a nice
programme, 1 hour long, every friday from 20 to 21 hours (GMT+1). They
intersperse records with their comments on the artists lives and adventures.
A nice programme.

You can hear it on the internet, it's on

http://www.rtve.es/radio/

You must click on Radio 3, in the "rne Radio Nacional en directo" window at
the right side of the page.

There's a blog too, it's on http://blogs.rtve.es/melodiaspizarras/posts

During the programme, you can write to them and they read the blog on line,
so you can find yourself with the surprise that they dedicate the next song
to you!

There's a podcast too, where you can take any programme. The list of records
played is in the Blog.

As for the time: as it's on GMT+1, from 20 to 21 hours, you can listen to
it, I believe, on fridays, from 11 to 12 in the Pacific coast, and from 15
to 16 in the West Coast.. isn't it? So get yourself prepared for it. I higly
reccomend it to you all! I know of some listeners in South America, Florida
and Cuba...

You'll enjoy it.

Last thing... comments in the blog by ICEMAN... It's me!
