It would appear so as The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham was --quote--the
unofficial regimental song of the Royal Tank Corps during the Second
World War -unquote-- according to http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=13649
Other sources say that it was an early 20th century folk song. Lydia
(and grandma too, no doubt!) was real!
Well --- one thing is for sure, according to a little note at the
bottom of this website:
http://ocp.hul.harvard.edu/ww/people_pinkham.html
Tthe 'ballad' was based on the gospel hymn I Will Sing of My
Redeemer. Try it -- it works:
I will sing of my Redeemer and his wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered, from the curse to set me free.
I will tell the wondrous story, how my lost estate to save,
In His boundless love and mercy, He the ransom freely gave.
I will praise my dear Redeemer, His triumphant power I'll tell,
How the victory He giveth over sin, and death, and hell.
I will sing of my Redeemer and His heavenly love for me;
He from death to life hath brought me, Son of God, with Him to be.
Refrain:
Sing, oh, sing of my redeemer, with His blood He purchased me,
On the cross He sealed my pardon, paid the debt, and made me free.
On that note -- its off to church where I am cantor --hmmm -- wonder
if I can convincethe organ player to --- nah!
Here's lookin' up your address!
