Thanks - one more to look for. As a bit of a fiddle player myself, I
find Grappelly's delicacy of tone and touch wonderful - he was never an
aggressive player like some others, and perhaps your taste for his later
work comes from his being more aggressive than he had been. I read
somewhere recently that though he learned originally without lessons,
much later he studied with a Classical player in London, and picked up a
good deal from it. One of the interesting things about the two
Reinhardt cuts we have talked about is how delicate he is himself,
though I wonder how much of the result has to do with forcing his
injured left hand to cooperate.
