24th street would have been Victor, right? Every picture I've seen
inside a Victor recording studio right through the mid-1940s is like
everyone is crammed into a broom closet. I have no idea where or how
symphonic recording was done in Victor's New York studios. 

If I recall correctly the roomiest recordin' joint around was
Liederkranz, which Columbia took over in the 1930s or so.

(Forget the band uniforms, etc. The band in the studio would have been
arranged EVERYWHERE. The idea was to get the sound at its best, and if
that meant half the trumpet section sat behind the saxes and the other
half sat behind an ashtray in the corridor, that's how it was done. No
one cared about looks or presentation for a record...)
