ARC and later CBS acquired the Vocalion label along with Brunswick...and
used it
as a low-priced (35 cents) label. When CBS essentially "abandoned" Brunswick
by
failing to issue enough of them, in mid-1940, they also lost the rights to
Vocalion...
which they replaced with the Okeh label (and kept the same numeric
sequence!). In
fact,I have a copy of the special issue which introduced the Okeh label
effective
June, 1940! Eventually, Decca used the Brunswick label for reissues of jazz
sets
(80###) and later revived the Vocalion label as well. IIRC, Vocalion
eventually
wound up as another pop label in the sixties...?!
