[78-L] First Compilation Album?

A friend of mine was listening to the CD reissue of the Folkways set "Anthology of American Folk Music", the ground-breaking LP set by Harry Smith of music originally released on 78, and he was wondering if it was the first multi-label retrospective album. I know there were single-label comps, like Columbia's history of jazz. Did that include any non-Columbia material? Are there others?
