He wasn't the only one - Wynton Marsalis and Stanley Crouch refused to read
the book on the same grounds.  I've read the book several times - it's a
masterwork and there's nothing the slightest bit racist about It - all it
postulates is that some white jazz musicians deserve a little credit, too.
