Not if kids brought some of their records over to a party at someone's 
house.   That happened all the time when I was a teen in the 50s and 
kids would bring over their case of 45s.

I always wondered that, but I think the mottled pressings with mixtures 
of the red and black shellac answers that question.  The two materials 
wear identically.
