No need to compare Vera Lynn with jazz singers.
No use to say Vera Lynn sounded British either. What did Elsie Carlisle,
Peggy Dell, Marjorie Kingsley, Beryl Davies and Julie Dawn sound like?
Italian?
More interesting to compare her with other popular voices. I find more
character in the soft altos of Anne Shelton and Dorothy Carless. And they
sound as British as Big Ben, as far as I'm concerned.
