R. Peter Munves has had one of the most illustrious careers in the marketing of
classical records for five major labels: Columbia Masterworks, RCA Victor Red
Seal, Decca/London, Deutsche Grammophon and Philips Classics. His innovative
marketing series which popularized classical music wrapped up total sales in
excess of two hundred million dollars. Among the compilations that he is best
remembered for are: "(The Composers') Greatest Hits", "Great Performances",
"Mad About (Composers Series)", "Set Your Life to Music" and "Love Notes".

Mr. Munves started his career in 1953 at Columbia Masterworks, where he
attended many recording sessions with such legendary artists as Bruno Walter,
George Szell, Leonard Bernstein, The Budapest Quartet, Rudolf Serkin, Glenn
Gould and Wendy Carlos. In 1970, he headed the RCA Red Seal Division and was
an intimate to such artists as Artur Rubinstein, The Guarneri Quartet,
Leontyne Price, Placido Domingo, Van Cliburn, Leopold Stokowski, Jorge Bolet
and Tomita. He was also instrumental in conceiving and releasing one of the
most infamous albums to ever grace the classical music catalog: "Eleanor Steber
at the Continental Baths."

As you can tell from the last credit, this program will be one of the most
entertaining meetings presented by ARSC/NY to date.

Seth B. Winner has been a professional remastering/restoration engineer for
over 30 years. In 1987, he was hired by the New York Public Library as an
audio preservation engineer; among his responsibilities is being the technical
curator of the sound portion of the Toscanini Legacy. Since 1990, he has been
president of Seth B. Winner Sound Studios, Inc., which has been responsible
for restorations/remasterings for such record companies as BMG, SONY, EMI,
Universal, Pavilion, Koch, and BBC Legends, as well as remastering projects
for such corporations as the N.Y. Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Chicago
Symphony and the Metropolitan Opera Association.

Mr. Winner has also been the past co-chair of the Technical Committee for
ARSC, and has received 3 GRAMMY Nominations and 1 GRAMMY Citation. Among some
of his current projects are the remastering of the live performances of the
Bach Aria Group from 1946 to 1980, production and remastering of the annual
Vocal Record Collectors' Society issue and the remastering of the Cy Walter
Sound Archive.

All ARSC NY Chapter meetings are free and open to the public
