I don't know if Wile's book covers it, but Frow's does. IIRC George Frow
states that toward the end of the Edison Phonograph enterprise the
Diamond Discs were dubbed, presume electrically, from lateral masters. 

I don't have my copy with me at work. Ron Dethlefson should be lurking
around here somewhere, and he knows everything about the subject.
