Thanks to all for the info and comments...as Don points out, with those
guys in the band how could it be anything less than great? And thanks for
reminding me how to spell Guranieri...since he is a fave of mine I should
know that.
Somehow I'd gotten the idea that most or all of the early Capitol sides were
recorded in LA...now I know better.
Capitol really had some fantastic studio big bands in the 40s, including
Butterfield, Jerry Gray, Whiteman, Paul Weston, Gordon Jenkins, etc.
Anyone know the Margaret Whiting record of "Passé" with Jerry Gray Orch.?
What a great sound they get with muted trombones, shimmering (that's the
only word) violins, harp, etc. Beautiful record, nice tune...and she
could really sing.
