[78-L] What's the story on Victor 17959?

No, according to my notes the files show two deletion dates for 17959 - May
1918 and Jan. 1920 - but I believe the former is correct since the last
catalog in which it appeared was Nov. 1917. It is not in the 1918 catalog or in the
1919 Dealer Numerical (I just looked).
I'm not sure where the May 1916 deletion date came from. I believe this is
incorrect in the online Victor discography as well
(_http://victor.library.ucsb.edu/index.php_ (http://victor.library.ucsb.edu/index.php) ), and they got
their data from me!
So Victor kept this thing on sale for two full years. I guess they weren't
as sensitive as we are now. I don't know how well it sold, although I do have
a copy.

The_ (mailto:78-l at 78online.com>The) files say this was withdrawn a month
after release, but it couldn't be,
since I had a friend look it up in a 1918 Victor catalog, and it was still
available for sale. I reported this to John Bolig several months ago. I
don't
know exactly when the disc was withdrawn (and I'd appreciate knowing), but
there's still plenty of copies out there.
