As is usual in digital discussions of "copyright," this has descended
into CHAOS!!

There are AT LEAST two...possibly three..."copyrights" involved
in a sound recording...!! First, there exists a copyright on the sound
recording as an "artistic work!!" Here in Canada, the life of this
copyright is "the end of the 50th year following its 'publication'"
However, in the US of A this will last until January 1, 2067 (unless
the law is further amended...?!)!

Second, the PUBLISHER of the song ALSO holds a copyright
thereunto; however, he/she/it MUST allow artists the right to
perform and/or record the song (AKA "Mandatory License!").
This is why, if I/we record an existing tune, I have to send some
cash to the Harry Fox Agency (CMRRA up here)...!

Third (I think) the COMPOSER of the song ALSO holds a
copyright thereunto...just like the author of a tome also does...!
ASCAP/BMI/SOCAN looks after this money, if it is due!

Oh, yeah...if any of the above parties are owned, even partially,
by a CAT...there exists a fourth "Feline Copyright"...?!
