Julian, Are you insulting the Cliquot Club Eskimos? Hahaha.
I think it is interesting to know something about the background of
musicians...no, it doesn't change the music but SOMETIMES it can give the
interested listener/scholar some idea of how the musician in question got to
be whatever he became. Just like knowing that so-and-so was born and
raised in a farm town and didn't go to NY until he was an adult, vs.
somebody who grew up there and maybe was a delivery boy at the Brill
Building when he was 12. the former learned about music from radio and
records, while the latter was mixing with the players and hearing them
live.
If we were just interested in listening to music, we could just use this
list as a place to post sound clips. But most of us joined because we want
to learn more about the records and the people who made them.
Earlier I mentioned that e mails are a lousy way to communicate because the
tone of the writer is absent, and it is easy for someone else to infer
something which was not ever intended. Hey...let's try to give each other
the benefit of the doubt...OK?
