[78-L] Ebay feed back being held as hostage by sellers!

Let's get back to basics.

The best sellers I've worked with on ebay follow up after the item has been shipped. It's usually a brief note just asking for confirmation that the item has been received. I'm always happy to answer these emails and re-confirm back to the seller that the item arrived in good condition. Usually I send back an email that says something like "Yes, the LP arrived in the mail the other day. Thanks for the prompt service. I'm in the process of leaving positive feedback for you and would appreciate your doing the same for me when you have the chance to do so." I then leave positive feedback for the seller. In every case, I've also had the seller automatically leave positive feedback for me as well.

For items I've sold on ebay, the process works the same way in reverse.

There are a fair number of sellers on ebay who are flakes. I've only run across a couple of them since I started buying stuff on ebay about nine years ago. All the other transactions I've had have worked out fine.

I think you guys are looking for a problem where not much of one exists. If the seller is a flake and sends out an item that arrives damaged, and is unwilling to make good on the transaction in a manner that seems reasonable to you, leave negative feedback and move on.

In nine years of buying and selling stuff on ebay I've had to do so exactly two times.

Oh my goodness Buck, I couldn't agree more......with the seller!

As a buyer and seller I have been on both ends of this matter and
particularly as a seller, have seen abuses by buyers. Especially since E-Bay
recently decreed sellers may not leave negative feedback to buyers, it is
clear to me the hostage takers are the buyers. I can not imagine why I
would give positive feedback to a buyer before receiving some feedback to
confirm the sale has been completed to the buyers satisfaction. The feedback
rating system by E-bay is so rigged in favor of the buyer. Even a neutral
feedback to a buyer pulls the rating down dramatically. So you don't
leave feedback, so what, you have not hurt the seller, so he doesn't leave
feedback for you? so what, your numbers don't increase and a lot of
sellers base their decision to sell on how much feedback they have accumulated
and ignore the low number feedback buyers.
Sorry for my rant, but to try and keep this on topic, of my last two sales
of a 78 record on E-Bay, one promptly left positive feedback and I just as
promptly left same for him. The other has not responded and I can only assume
he received his record in good condition and was satisfied.

I just received this email from a seller.

He is holding my feed back as hostage until I leave him good feed back.

  His ebay ID is?? firebirdologist

This was his message to me:

  Hi!

It's on the way today! Thank you again for your purchase. I will

happily post positive feedback for this transaction if I receive the

  same.

  All the best,

  Randy

  This will be my reply:

  Randy,

Many people that I speak with are starting to feel as if feed back from the
seller is being withheld as a hostage.

Because of this I am joining a growing group that only leaves feed back for
sellers that first leaves it for the buyer.

My part is over, if you fail to leave me feedback then so be it.

You may also thank your fellow

sellers that practice the same method that you are trying on me now.

  Thank you Bill

  Please

stand with me on this issue, when you get a seller that fails to send

feed back for you. Please send him a similar message and do what you

would like with his feed back.

  Thank you? Bill
