For those who didn't follow the audio link, Bing changed the
phrase to "like a gambler's salty streak", which makes much more sense.
The salty streak ending is a happy occurrence, as befits the theme of the
song.
To argue that the original lyric is justified because they both
involve evaporation is like saying Cole Porter should have written "You're
the top! You're FBI's most wanted! You're the top! You're the house
that's most haunted!"
Well they're all superlatives, so they must fit the theme of the
song.

Right....I thought the reference in the lyric was to the speed of the
evaporation, not that one event is happy and the other sad.
