Spoken by a young, pretty blonde anchor woman last night:
"How exciting to be here this evening attending one of our new president's
balls."

Subject: [78-L] Quoting Ginger Rogers and ignoring Glenn Miller
With all the discussion about pick yourself up, dust yourself off,
nobody followed up with a note about what was said at at least 5 of the
Inaugural Balls last night. He introduced the new First Lady for a
dance saying "She does everything I do except she does it in high heels
and backwards." That is supposedly what Ginger Rogers described what
she did during her partnership with Fred Astaire -- where she felt she
was considered as the secondary part of the team. The President did
mess the line up the first time he used it by forgetting to include the
backwards part which removed any reference to dancing out of the joke.
Now, if there is anything you should have been outraged about, it is the
misattribution of the source of the song they danced to at all the
balls, "At Last". As WE all know, it was introduced by Glenn Miller,
but Beyonce and Etta James were given all the credit by the media. This
lists 22 later recordings of the song.
