Back in 1950, my family and I traveled from Illinois to Washington (state).
My mother, when we were in western Washington, asked a local "Do you
pronounce that town as "Ya-KIE-ma" or "Ya-KEE-ma?" Back came the
withering reply..."YA-ka-ma!"
