The artist on that record is Franklyn MacCormick, the song (recitation) is
Melody Of Love," and it is on the Victor label. The orchestra is Freddy
Martin. For many years MacCormick had a late night radio show on Chicago's
WGN where he would recite poetry as soft music played in the background.

Subject: [78-L] Help identifying an artist/tune
I notice several requests here lately asking for help identifying an artist
and/or tune, and I am going to join the ranks.
There is a record I've only heard on an old Hawthorne aircheck, of a man
"talking" over a song, I am not sure of the name of the song, but I think
it's called "Because You Love Me". I need to know the name of the artist.
I asked around among the likely suspects who might know when I was at the
last 78 meet in Los Angeles, and no one knew the answer... all I could
gather was the name of a similar artist who billed himself as "The
Continental" and had a french accent. That's not this guy.
You can hear the record I'm asking about if you click this link, which is
the Hawthorne aircheck I heard it on from August 1947:

Hawthorne plays the song during the first third of the show, and talks over
it, as Hawthorne always did, to hilarious effect, but can anyone help and
tell me who that guy is on the record? Hawth doesn't back-announce it...
Just curious...
Thanks,
Andrea
