It started as "Wotan's Day"(Wotan being a minor god of the neo-German 
milieu...!)...
which drifted into "wodansday," which in turn devolved into "wodensday" and 
then
"wedensday"...and finally "wed-nes-day"...which the laziness of modern 
pronuciation
tuurnred into "Wed'ns'day" and finally "Wed's'day!"

These days it has become "Wensday" (or "Wezdy?!")
