Which, IIRC, appeared under "Buddy Holly" on Decca...and "The Crickets"
on Brunswick...!

Sadly, Oshawa, Ont'o. is too thoroughly "suburbanized" to hear insect
serenades at night...I grew up (in Waynesville, Ill's and then a mobile
home on the outskirts of Bloomington, Ill's...!) going to sleep to the
sounds of insects serenading potential partners...and now I miss it...!

All I (occasionally) hear are Cicadas...and Canuck cicadas DON'T
have the same "dialect" as do their Illinois relatives! IIRC, ours join
in one single "WHUZZ!" in unison for several seconds, then go
silent (listening for replies?!)...whereas U S Of A (at least Illinois)
cicadas repeat short "whuzzes" about once/second or so, with
the same silent breaks...?!

I can also recall the first time I ever heard two thomas cats battling...
again at night and in Waynesville! Growing up in Chicago, I was all
too familiar with the sound of sirens (no gun battles, even though
the site of the "St. Valentine's DayMassacre" was only two-plus
blocks from our apartment...!)...but the sound of two thomas cats
trying to scare one another off before the battle became physical
was the strangest and scariest sound I had EVER heard at my
"ripe old age" of almost nine!

Since then, I have perfected the art of "hissing" (cat style) at
felines! You pull back your lips...exposing your "fangs"...and
exhale loudly...! Cats recognize this as a "threat" sound, and
will often un-ass the area upon hearing it...usually your goal!
