Al,
Thank you so very much for doing this. The entire family is thrilled
with these new discoveries. My wife Marianne, Lou's Granddaughter, has a
lot of pictures of Lou through the years, but nothing like what we have
found in the past few weeks. This music is wonderful.
I can see what you mean about Paul Specht's music (Al wrote me that
Specht's music was rather stodgy). I think he was very conservative with
his choices and his style. It's not that easy to put ourselves back in
those times when the phonograph had it's short reign as the king of
entertainment. Radio was in its infancy. Sound had not yet come to the
silver screen. Hollywood was still orange groves.
The music we now listen to from that era was mostly the avant-garde. But
guys like Paul, and in the 50's and 60's Lawrence Welk, made their
fortunes in the middle of the road, where most older folks were. Another
good example would be Lester Lanin.
Lou continued to make money with his music up into the late 60's. I have
heard most of his last stuff, and it, too as very conservative. But he
made good money all along.
Thanks again, and if there is something I can do for you, just ask.

BTW, I have a 50's era Garrard with a nice Stanton cart and a CD
recorder for transcription. I uses to use DART on the computer for
resto, but I find that Audacity is easier to use. I basically just
remove clicks. I like to make disks for friends too. How do you work
with equalization? I find your work extraordinary in quality.
Take Care,
