For those homemade records with a steel base I might recommend the Ronette TX-88 (if you can find one) which was a very high quality ceramic cartridge and had specs close to the early stereo hot cartridge, the Audio Empire 88 or 108. The TX-88 is a flip over with LP/45 and 78 needles. Swamp Daddy
