I did not know that! Film was also used for the awful sounding Bach Double
Concerto wherein Jascha Heifetz played with himself (1946) and the Bruch
Concerto with Menuhin (I think the problem was with the dubs in this case,
which were so bad the work was redone as soon as tape came in).

A number of other Stokowski recordings were, including the Shostakovich
Symphony #1 which was also done for Program Transcription, which I have. I
haven't checked to see whether the faded pairs of sides match the LP, since
it's long been my contention that any PTs that weren't dubbed reissues were
done simultaneously with the 78 recordings, especially when they come to a
brief halt to allow the engineers to change from one wax to the next (Grand
Canyon Suite with Whiteman fits this pattern..unfortunately there's one LP side
that's an alternate so it can't be matched up).
I haven't listened to many of those other Stokowski sets in years, especially
if there was an earlier version that was better (i.e. Franck Symphony,
Scheherazade) so I can't say which of those might have fades.
