I know Cary likes a good oldtime tune, so with apologies to Charlie Poole, the following is set to the tune of "White House Blues", Poole's venerable country song about McKinley's assasination, which elevated TR to the top spot ("...From Buffalo, to Washington"):

Dubya in the White House, hidin' and decidin',
McCain out on the stump, with Palin and Biden,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Obama just a-tryin' to stay above the fray,
while Rovists insist on God, guns and gays,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

McCain he hollered, Palin she squealed,
"Lipstick on a pig, we don't want your New Deal",
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Joe the plumber's famous, but his piggy bank is broken,
will he still be famous, when the folks have spoken?
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Clintons took a trip, they took it out west,
raising cash and touching voters-that's what Bill does best,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Hush, little investment bankers, now don't you fret,
You'll still receive more than Joe the Plumber gets,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Some say Obama's too green, Palin's a clothes horse,
Ralph Nader's supporters are both comin' out in force,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Bush in the White House, he's doin' Cheney's best,
Reagan in the graveyard, not gettin' any rest,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Ain't but the one thing that grieves my mind,
it's hearin' all these speeches of the operatic kind,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Yonder come the candidates, comin' down the line,
They're as thick as Edison discs, makin' shinola shine,
Eight days to go, to Washington.

Standin' at the station, Kerry, Dole and Gore,
either Obama or McCain, soon will make it four,
Eight days to go, to Washington.
