Mike,

Mike (for that matter, who's Jascha?) Biel mbiel at mbiel.com

You're not SERIOUS! After some 30 or more years, Jascha can still make schoolboys out of these Yamaha violin trained children of today. Try his Brahms Concerto with Reiner, the Sibelius, he was the first one to even dare record it, and his Zigeunerweisen., Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. The only one who could make Jascha sound like a school boy was Sarasate himself!

Anmd not that he was alone. It was a different school in those days, with Elman, Milstein, Stern, Rabin, Francescatti. Spalding and Kreisler were both wimps, i.e., whimperers, totally insipid and maudlin.
The children of today have fantastic technique, but very little spirit, very little insight, no interpetation of their own, just those of their teachers who teach strictly by the book! I'll still take Sarasate, Drdla, Kubelik, and even Auer with all the scratching and surface noise. It's MUSIC!

But at least we got rid of Yehudi!!!!!!

Howard
