[78-L] Mit-Out Sound

WB-First National stopped cutting direct-to-disc at some point in 1930, certainly by early 1931. But soundtracks continued to be dubbed to discs until 1935 or so to accomodate smaller theatres not yet equipped for optical-sound prints. Vitaphone cutting equipment, including the recording table and wax master, can be seen in a demonstration short subject from 1926 included on the "Jazz Singer" DVD. The 1930 WB-FN film "Wide Open" is also said to contain glimpses of Vitaphone equipment.

So if the term dates from 1933 or so, it would have been coined after
the Vitaphone system was pretty much abandoned in favor of optical,
would this not be so?
